Why does Central Payroll need to know the township or borough information of an Employee residing in Pennsylvania?

Pennsylvania taxes Maryland residents who work in certain townships and boroughs in Pennsylvania. The State of Maryland reciprocates by taxing Pennsylvania residents of those townships or boroughs based on the tax rate of the Maryland County where the employee works.
