Central Payroll Bureau News release effective 5/6/09
Will Direct Deposit Help Make Our State Greener?
According to the Pay It Green Alliance™, paper checks use more than 674 million gallons of fuel and add more than 3.6 million tons of greenhouse gases to the environment each year. This waste includes the energy and fuel used to cut, transport, and mill paper; the printing and delivery of checks to employees; and the energy used to tender, clear, and settle check payments. And according to the National Automated Clearing House Association (NACHA), businesses have saved anywhere from $2.87 to $3.15 per payment by using direct deposit instead of checks. Thanks to such a large group of employees using Direct Deposit, we have now reached an all time high of 86% participation rate. Keep up the good work!
Where's my check?
Everyday we read about disasters caused by flooding, tornados, storms and even pandemics (like the recently announced alert concerning the H1N1 virus). In times like these, if mailing checks directly to the employee were necessary, would you get your check? Have you moved recently? Did you tell us? Please take a moment to verify the address printed on your pay advice and/or check stub (center of the page, directly below your name). If you need to update your address, please use 'POSC' for a convenient and fast service. Updated addresses will enable The Central Payroll Bureau to better serve you and your family!
Can we save you money?
A missing W4/MW507 certificate means that higher taxes (maximum taxation) are withheld from your earnings. Tax regulations preclude an employer from making retroactive adjustments to the taxes already withheld, so the sooner we receive the initial / corrected W4/MW507, the sooner you will receive a better match between taxes withheld and taxes that may be due at year end. Withholding information can be found on the upper right side of your pay stub. 'POSC' will allow employees to submit updates against existing W4/MW507 and/or address information, but initial submission must be done via mailing of the form to Central Payroll.
Can I Cash My Paycheck Early?
Absolutely not! You should not! Recently, we have received information from the State Treasurer's office, that some employees have been cashing their checks early. Please be aware that checks are not to be cashed before the pay date (as printed on the check).
Has Health Benefits Open Enrollment been extended?
Yes. Open Enrollment selections can be made via the Interactive Voice Response (IVR) system between April 20, 2009 and May 26, 2009 (Revised ending date). Employee benefits will now be expanded to include coverage for Same Sex Domestic Partners and their families. And be sure to evaluate all pre-tax offerings to see how they can help save you money.
What's Going On with POSC?
Great news! Over the past two months, over 3500 employees have signed up for electronic delivery of their Direct Deposit pay advice. We now have over 31,000 employees enrolled in helping us to eliminate the printing of over 800,000 pieces of paper, per year.
Thank You
