Central Payroll Bureau News release effective 4/1/08
A BIG THANK YOU! for our payroll professionals
In a recent feedback meeting it was noted that over the past several months more and more agency payroll professionals have been promoting and training employees on how to make better use of POSC. Your efforts continue to pay off, as we continue to grow our user base each month. Recent reporting shows 160,198 hits against check stub or direct deposit information since 1/1/08 and 32,205 views and/or printing of duplicate W2 information during the same period. Those numbers show the true power that POSC offers to our employees. Thanks to all!
Disaster Recovery / Business Continuity
Coming up in May, we will again be participating in a Business Continuity exercise (off site) that will help to ensure our successful recovery and continuity of operations in case of a disaster.
Spring projects
As we close the 1st quarter of 2008, I would like to report that we have completed our printing of the 1042's (Non Resident Alien wage reporting) forms and have implemented electronic submission of ACH payments for Child Support to the Maryland State Disbursement Unit. As we jump into spring, we are now focused on the following projects: internal updates to our payroll software, initial planning / testing for Morgan and Salisbury University payroll parking deductions, updates to Health Care & Agency subsidy rates (as provided by DBM), review & documentation of internal controls and fiscal year end planning. We had hoped to be further along on the POSC savings bond project but other priorities stepped in the way. We will keep you posted.

Open enrollment begins 4/23/2008 and ends on 5/14/2008. No IVR this Year!!!! Be on the look out for local Health Fairs! Visit www.dbm.maryland.gov (use links for State Employees / Health Benefits)
Governor's Message on Health Care
The Governor has announced that employees will enjoy an additional deduction free pay period in FY2009. That means a savings to all employees that purchase health care. Bi-weekly employee's who normally make 24 pays per year, will now only make 23 as the State will make one for you. Monthly employees will also receive a similar benefit. More information will be posted when available.
Thank You
