Filing Inquiry Notice

You may have received a filing inquiry notice from the Comptroller's Office if you filed a federal return with a Maryland address, but did not file a Maryland return. Each year we compare our records with the IRS. Whenever we identify a federal tax return that was filed with a Maryland address but do not find a corresponding Maryland tax return, we send a notice requesting your assistance. Your response to this notice depends upon whether you lived in Maryland at any time during the year indicated on the notice.
