Payment Arrangements

You should pay as much as possible with your tax return, and continue making payments while waiting for your return to be processed. To insure proper credit to your account, be sure to note on your payment your Social Security number and the tax period for which the payment is intended.

When your return is processed, a Personal Income Tax Balance Due Notice will be sent to you, with a convenient check-off for payment options. If you are unable to pay the notice in full at that time, you should contact the Collection Section at 410-974-2432 or 1-888-674-0016 to request a payment arrangement. If you prefer, you may set up payments online.

If you are paying to release an MVA hold

We have specially trained representatives on staff to assist you in making payment arrangements if you have received notice that the Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA) has a hold on the renewal of your Maryland driver’s license or the renewal or transfer of your Maryland vehicle registration due to outstanding tax liabilities.  To make payment arrangements in order to release an MVA hold please call us toll free at (855) 213-6669 or email us at mvahold@comp.state.md.us.
